With profound sadness and gratitude for 96 wonderful years of life, the family of Rita (Liguori) Brosseau announces her passing on Friday, January 26, 2024.
Born in Westerly, Rita was the youngest child of the late Frank and Filomena (Ritacco) Liguori. Rita married her late husband, Leo Brosseau, in May of 1953. They were married for 66 years until his passing and raised four children together. Rita is survived by three of her children: Sharon (Tom) Lane of Boca Raton, FL, Carol (Paul) Marsiglio of Westerly, RI and Matthew (Deb) Brosseau of Stonington, CT. She lost her youngest child, Florence Azzinaro, in 2018. Rita is also survived by her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Will and Lucy Liguori and her brothers John, Charlie, Frank “Doobie”, and Thomas Liguori. She was a faithful communicant of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church.
Rita’s greatest enjoyment in life came from feeding her relatives and friends. She was a passionate cook who could make everything from toast to tenderloin taste like a gourmet meal. Her recipes were cherished by anyone who was lucky enough to have her share them. If Rita invited you to her home, you were going to taste some of the best meals and pastries in Westerly. Her Saturday luncheons were legendary and included friends, family and even friends of family. Beloved by all those whose lives she touched, Rita possessed a gentle spirit, easy smile and gracious demeanor.
Rita’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Apple Rehab Clipper, who cared for her body, mind and spirit with love and tenderness over the last four years.
