What I Put on My Face
All skin is good skin, which is why good skincare is more of a journey than a destination. We all love a one-off tip—but, at Byrdie, we’re more interested in how our skin evolves over time. The product we've used for a decade, the ingredient cocktail that made us glow, the step we never skip, and all the advice in between. This is the stuff that makes a real difference. WithWhat I Put on My Face, we’re bringing you the rituals, recommendations, and failed experiments (we’ve all had them) straight from celebrities, founders, and influencers who’ve gone through it themselves.
Seasons come and go. Trends do the same! Though the ocean's presence is consistent, it ebbs and flows—kind of like our relationship with our skin. Sometimes we're nicer to it than others, and sometimes it's nicer to us. But that same protective layer has been there for us through every stage of life and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
This is important to note for a couple of reasons. For one, I was recently thinking about Pamela Anderson (as I often do) and how, even though she's getting so much credit at this stage in her career, she's always been the same person. Her journals were probably full long before she took to Substack, and her talent was present—alongside every other aspect of her warm, wonderful aura—long before the much-deserved acting nominations.
There's something to be said for visual learning, so maybe seeing her take to the red carpet sans makeup after so many years of major glam helped the general population grasp all her goodness on a more basic level. Her message was clear, and we were easily reinitiated into her world.
But she's always been herself! And that gorgeous skin? It's always been there, too.
This week, Anderson's skincare brand, Sonsie, has a reintroduction of its own to contend with. After months and months of sold-out drops, waitlisted shoppers will be able to shop all four of the brand's highly sought-after products at once.
The lineup includes a new formulation of its brilliant Basic Balm. The acts-like-a-balm-but-looks-like-a-gloss favorite—it's been sold out for six months—now features a one percent peptide complex for extra repair and a touch of volume. ("It's so lovely," the co-founder tells Byrdie.) Sonsie's multitasking moisturizer is also returning with a new name.
"We renamed the Multi Moisture Mask to Multi Moisture Cream based on our community’s feedback. They really showed us how multi-use it truly is, from face to feet," Anderson adds. "It’s more than a mask; it’s an all-over essential, really." Plus, the brand is introducing the Sonsie Bundle, which includes all four products for $148.
Ahead, the icon tells Byrdie all about her skin—the same skin skin she had in babyhood, childhood, on every Playboy shoot, cooking at home with her sons on weekend mornings, taking the stage on Broadway, and today—and the revamped Sonsie routine that nourishes it.
